As you all know, MMOTale's category worked by sorting blogs into MMOs (MapleStory, WoW, etc) then into subcategories (Leveling, Rants, etc). That system didn't really work, things like fanfics didn't go anywhere, so general got full of blogs (6699 on the Internet Archive) and others were almost empty (Magic at only 98). So I'm not going to implement that. Which brings up an obvious problem, what to do in its place. Well, my first idea was to make a tag system where a user could give each blog tags, and then others could search for them. But I realised, this would have the problem of lots of different tags compared to the total amount of blogs, making searching almost impossible. E.g, some users might use: "MapleStory"; "Maple Story"; "Maple"; "MS", etc to mean the same game. My next idea, was to go back to MMOTale's system, but with different categories and subcategories. For example categories: "Real Life", "MMOs", "Internet", "Fanfics", "Education", etc. With subcategories for each being something like: "Rants", "Thoughts", "Good Experiences". But this too seems a bad idea. Again, some categories will be empty and others full. So, what do you think would be the best approach. I'm currently thinking of just dropping the whole categories/ tags idea completely, and making searchs based on all blog content, but I worry that'll eat CPU and be inaccurate. Also, a nice picture of the updated VuTales ID with new headers and footers; complete and working badge; new "About Me" panel; BBCode; global notice and a friends list. img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/Minpolik/VuTales/VuTales_1231281501302.png

I think we should trash the tags since, back in the old MMOT we kinda didn't use them, but since we're trying to get new members I don't really know... The categories, I think is the best option. Like, sure the some will be empty, maybe your main ones should be like mainstream games (Like Maple,WoW,Runescape, Neopets etc...) and if someone plays a game that is not really talked about (basing off the old MMOT, let's use ROSE) Don't add them, and if a certain amount of users comment that they would like a thread for ROSE, possibly add it? That's just me.

Ohh sweeeet. Image posting and about me panel. *drool* I like using tags. Most major sites use tags to sort user submitted material. It generally works pretty well. The most lacking part of finding blogs on the old MMOT was the absence of a search function. So as long as there's a search, we should be good. IMO, I think searching on blog content will work the best. (Kinda what Basil has, right?) Also since I don't know what the heck CPU is.

Or we could have a search bar, with categories, kinda like lolBasil.

IMO, I think searching on blog content will work the best. (Kinda what Basil has, right?) Also since I don't know what the heck CPU is. Everytime the server does whatever it needs to do to generate a page, it uses CPU. Each month my host gives me a certain amount of CPU time. Each time the server has to do something, it eats into this time.

How much time do you get? If you go over the limit, would they suspend your account?

Hmm. Personally, I like the system of new categories, not just a bunch of random MMOs nobody played and then the subcategories. Hopefully each category should be filled enough with a few exceptions such as Thoughts or Rants (even though they're still good examples).
And, uh, for tags… That's complicated too. If the search system is for categories, then yeah, some searches will more results than others. If the search system is for tags then some people might not even get the right results they want since what they search for might not match what the tags actually are. Is there any way to select the category, subcategory, and possible tags in a search system?

Categories should be: MMORPGs Online Games (non-MMO stuff) Real Life Sub-categories- Fanfiction, Rant... SOmething... I suck at this lulz. The Tagging system everyone thought up of should take care of the rest.

Personally, I never looked in the categories. I just looked at the recent blog on the left panel.

Eh, categories doesn't matter to me, but I think we should still keep the gaming category. I mostly remember blogs by title and what game they were about.
Also, do we have a favorite function? If I like a blog, I should be able to favorite it.

Oh, speaking of server hosting, my group of friends have a forum. One of my friends is paying to host the site, and he MIGHT allow MMOTales to reside there.

Just have an input box for the game it's about. If it's one blog about multiple games, separate them with slashes or commas or something.
And just for fun, have it list a few of the most popular choices for games among blog submitters.
