HackedMarket. Lol. ._.' Sigh...
Today, somebody gave me the link of a "secret project".
When I visited the page, I thought I landed on basilmarket. But it appears that someone has been ripping the entire design to create a complete replica of the original site.
The project is called "HackedMarket".
The person behind all this has to create everything in the back-end himself. This is why many things do not work properly, and the site does not handle things like the original one. It is said that when the system is done, it will become opensource and everyone can set up their own basilmarket.
The owner of the site (Mrbasil) was notified and writes a notice shortly after:
"It has come to our attention that someone has completely ripped off the BasilMarket design and is creating their own forum using this design. We want to warn all BasilMarket users that signing up for any sites that attempt to look like BasilMarket can potentially be dangerous. This is similar to how some sites steal the design from pages such as eBay or Paypal to get you to login and then steal your login info.
BasilMarket.com has a 4 year reputation of keeping your account information secure and encrypted (we only store encrypted passwords), whereas you cannot be certain what other sites that steal our content are doing with your passwords and login information. Thus, we strongly encourage you to avoid these sites, or at the very least be extremely cautious with your private information on sites that steal BasilMarket content.
Also, it is very disappointing to see such disregard for all the hard work that you, the users, and the BasilMarket staff have put into making BasilMarket the great site that it is. Stealing our design shows that the author(s) have absolutely no skill and imagination of their own and will certainly never be able to attract an amazing community like you, the users of BasilMarket.".
Mrbasil has also sent this email to the owner of "HackedMarket":
You are clearly using design and content from BasilMarket. You have 24 hours to remove all such content or we will forward the matter over to our lawyers.
The owner of "HackedMarket" (Paul) complied with Basilmarket.com but states that he will not seize further development of the CMS (content management system).
Paul responds to MrBasil:
Just so we're clear on some things, I did not start this project to STEAL any accounts(sorry but what use would i have for basil accounts? lmao) that is not the purpose of it.. SO WHAT if i "stole" the way it looks, it's the functional coding behind the design that matters.
Also i did in-fact remove the site from my network as asked but it doesn't mean that i've stopped working on it. In due time it will be released open-source to the public and then people can do what they wish with it i could care less.
To comment on my supposed "lack of skill & imagination" the purpose was to emulate this site with the main focus being the auction component, not to create an identical community to steal members.. I don't play MapleStory anymore, not since the local MS days.
