So today I went out to my town's largest shopping center (it has about fifty stores) to ask around for some spare white foam packaging, which I desperately need for a project due this week but no place I've looked sells it.
I went into about 15+ stores, most of them which sold large items like kitchen appliances, dining room furniture, and other furniture.
Each and every one of them said, "nope, sorry, we don't have any of that anywhere."
I was on the 16th store and close to giving up when this time I ended up asking the question to a manager, who provided me with a ray of hope: "oh, we have plenty of that! Let me check in back for you!"
FINALLY, I was saved! She came back with two large boxes full of different sized packaging foam, just what I needed. And then she whispered to me:
"Drive around behind the stores and check around the recycling bins, you'll definitely find more if you don't mind rooting through those dumpsters."
I thanked her and got back into my car, doubting that I would find much, since I had asked almost every store on that side of the shopping center and they all denied having any kind of foam packaging.
Well, to make a long story short, those dumpsters turned out to be a white foam packaging gold mine. I was very happy, but very upset at the same time: why had all of those stores lied to me about having any foam packaging what-so-ever, WHEN THEIR RECYCLING BINS WERE PILED TO THE SKY WITH IT!?
I can't believe I wasted about two hours going around asking for it inside the stores, getting "no" every single time, when it only took me fifteen minutes of rooting around recycling bins to FILL MY ENTIRE CAR with packaging foam in perfect condition!
I'm thinking that they just didn't want me rooting around behind their stores inside their recycling bins, but why the hell not? It's trash anyway, it's going to be destroyed, so obviously it has no value to the store. I just don't get it.

Maybe they didn't know or thought you deserved better.

It's possible that they didn't know. I was asking the store employees, maybe I should have asked the people who work in logistics...too bad I didn't know who they were. And I didn't feel like my quest was important enough that I had to request the manager themself to answer my question.
Pfft. I'll dig through garbage any day. The most disgusting thing I've ever done with my hands was yank my dog's poop out of her mouth. Garbage looks like a pile of flowers compared to that.

It's not exactly like my life is worth ranting about. I think, overall, I have a pretty good life. Compared to starving people in Africa, children/teens in abusive homes, people who don't even have a home, people who are taught to strap bombs to themselves and jump into crowded supermarkets for epic religious win, people who have been kidnapped or raped, and people who have lost everything they had during an environmental and economical disaster like hurricane Katrina-- yea, my life looks pretty good.
I think the reason that I rant so much is because it's the only form of anger/stress management that works for me. Seriously. After I rant, I feel all light and fluffy, like how other people feel after they do yoga, or stuff their face with ice cream, or scream into a pillow. None of the normal outlets work for me T_T;

as long as you don't bottle things up and get an ulcer, ranting is just fine and dandy

So next time you see some crazy Asian kid with an AK47, just remember, it could just be me (I don't intend to kill anyone, per se, maybe just blow up a school or two).

And, it's cool to read/write rants. It's real fun to see the enormous amount of sarcasm or whatever put into them, though I myself do not like to rant very much, and tend to release my anger in a "artistic" way, I just write a short story on what had angered me and it works. Most of the time. However when I do rant, it feels very good in the end. Not only because you're talking about your troubles, but most of the time, people can relate to what your saying. Feels good. ???Wow, what the hell was I saying?

Sometimes it can also be very comical, when you look back at it.
Other times you want to pick up that ol' oak tree and throw it at your computer.
