Lyte fell quickly from the tall skyscraper, feet first. At the last second the boots released a concentrated blast of steam at the floor, slowing his decent to stillness. He landed without a sound on the floor behind the boy with the steam blade. He pressed another button on his gauntlet, and noiselessly it expanded and contracted and folded until it looked just like a shiny leather glove on his right hand. With that he fell into step next to the boy, lowering his head so his eyes were hidden behind the glare of his glasses.
"I don't mean to alarm you, but you may be in danger."

The man was now face-to-face with Hero. he claimed his name to be Axel but Hero didn't trust him. "It's Hero. My name is Hero." He glanced at Axel's clothes. Military. "It doesn't matter why am here. But if I told you I was a runaway, would you rat me out?"
He backed up to keep a distance between them.

Axel tried to look unintimidating. "Rat you out? Why would I do that?" asked Axel. "Hero, I- Where did you run away from? I work for...um..let's just say I protect people here."

Hero studied him, he looked harmless. He nodded slightly. "Bogdan's School For Lost Kids. I'm homeless." He looked Axel in the eyes. "Can you really h-" He stopped, he isn't used to asking for help. "Can you really help me?" He finally asked.

Jerry: Why oh why did I ever want to become a policeman in this godforsaken city?
Jerry drove his police car through the slums of Romit hating everything about his job. As a child he had always dreamt of being a policeman. He'd seen policemen doing so many things, like help old women across the street, or arrest a person who'd done something terrible. Though there were fewer cases of the latter happening in this once incredible city. Now however, that's the only thing that seems to happen. With an overabundance of gangs the job for us cops was never done. Thankfully I was a nearly 7' tall well built man, so I didn't have to worry about the gang kids wising up to me. Though there were always a few of those wise ass kids who thought they could fight me, in which case I would just use the night stick I was given to protect myself. It didn't really do much for me though. The kids nowadays had a bunch of that high tech steam crap which made my job that much more difficult. Either way, I do my job, and I must say, I do it pretty well. A call came over the radio.
Female Voice: We've just received a report of a boy escaping from the factories. Any units available in the area, please respond.
I wouldn't blame the kid for trying to escape from this hellhole... but if that kid escaping means I'm not gonna get paid, then we've got a problem.
Jerry: Officer Focal is available to respond to the disturbance. Female Voice: What is your 10-20 (Your location)? Jerry: I'm on the corner of 24th and 2nd. Female Voice: You're approximately 2 blocks from the factory keep a look out for the child. Jerry: 10-51. (That's saying that he's en route btw... Just to clear up any confusion...)
Now I have to keep a look-out for this damn kid, making my life that much harder. I look to my left and see a child talking to an older man in an old dark alley. I figure it must be the escapee running into one of the guards and figure he shouldn't suffer anymore than he has to. I park the police car on the side of the cracked cement road and open the door letting my long legs stretch after being cramped inside that car for 3 hours. I quickly cross the road making sure that none of the crappy cars happen to run into me. I then make my way into the dark alley and call out.
Jerry: Hey kid, can I talk to you for a second?
((-sigh- I suck at writing... Idk why I'm doing this... Oh yeah... It's all Josh's fault.. -Shakes fist at Josh in a threatening manner hoping to intimidate him-))

Adrian stared at the bloody wreck in front of him, where lay the dead bodies of all in his gang. Minutes before he had seen the Miort completely slay them, and they couldn't even resist, because the Miort had been so much more advanced and skilled. Now he looked at the decapitated bodies, knowing that it would've happened sooner or later. Police slowly gathered and checked the bodies of the dead, taking the bodies for burial and for further investigation. Of course, he was hidden behind a corner, and from that he could see the small crowd people around the street increase faster and faster. Instead of doing what normal kids like him would've done, he simply turned around and left from a alternate route, while sighting the thief from earlier and a kid several years older than him. Adrian considered his few choices, and then walked towards the two. // better?//

Hero notices a cop car pull up beside the curb, and a male figure comes out.
"Hey kid, can I talk to you for a second?" He asked.
Hero cursed and didn't give Axel a chance to respond. And brushed past him and around the corner before the cop could grab him.
He bolted down the street. And into a weapon store.
The store owner looked surprised to see him.
"I need a weapon. FAST!" Hero gasped out.

"I-" started Axel, before beign cut off as Hero scampered away. Axel turned around, and saw a police officer coming his way.
...Could he be...sent to capture Hero? Well..I guess I'll stall him a bit.
Axel stepped in the officer's way and said, "Hey there, buddy. How's it going?"

((Sorry for being a wet blanket of sorts, but I have to list out problems. 1, with the steam-tech swords. Releasing that much steam means releasing water at 100 Degrees Celsius in gaseous form. Unless your hands have some serious protection, there's no way you can use that power without burning your hands or even yourself. 2, The shockwave/eject function of the sword. Newton's third law, for each reaction there's an equal and counter reaction. 3, The police. Back in that time, there were hardly things called cars. Even if there were any, they would most likely be for the rich or nobles, since they're powered by mostly electricity. Which would be rather rare in these times. 4, the radios. Once again, electric powered, unless you're talking about morse code or such. Sorry, just had to list these errors.)) ((Time to jump in! ) Jade fon Rendezvous, I hereby grant you the title of advisory. You will help me, won't you?Corrupt.Look Jade, look. This is Neuroi. This, will be our stepping stone to the next level of technology. That's what this bloody town is like. Hell. Even the air reeks of it. It's just too familiar.Oh, you will tell him to initiate Neuroi. Do it, or this bullet goes into your head. Jade, you ended up in this town. Why.Snapping out of his sudden flashback, Jade nearly tripped over his other feet, his hand reaching out to grab any nearest object he could hold on to. Regaining his balance, Jade leaned against the window he held on to, and looked at the shopkeeper fiddling with his clockwork pistol. No matter what he did to distract himself, no matter how hard he tried to forget that incident, it would be seared into his memories forever. He shot his master, the military leader of Ein. It was for a good cause, but yet it had left him in a predicament he could not escape from. He had committed murder. Be it for a good cause, he was still a murderer. Even though he killed a member of Ein, he still wore the robes of the Order, with the symbol emblazoned over the chest portion. Strangely, he just couldn't let go of this one piece of clothing. Perhaps this was a way to remind himself of his sin. Perhaps he just grew fond of it. Regardless, it would attract too much attention, so wearing his brown overcoat over it was essential. "This town. It's a good distance away from Ein. I should be safe here, so I'll probably stop thinking about t-" Almost drifting into another one of his thoughts, a small figure dashed into the shop, slamming his weight against the counter as he shouted for a weapon. Surprised that even children would resort to violence such as this, his finally came down to a reasonable answer. He was a slave. Have faced what no other kids at his age was meant to go through, he would stand against anyone who would get in his way. Jade sighed. "Must violence be the only way anything is solved?" Walking towards the kid, Jade pulled out a dagger with his left hand, and another pistol in his right. "Pick one, but I'll be supervising you."

Hero gasped as a man revealed a dagger and a pistol, both pointed straight at him. "Pick one, but I'll be supervising you." The man said. Hero moved to the side of the room, keeping his eye on the door. Maybe if he could stall for time, Axel might show up. So far, he was the only one he could somewhat trust. "Would you really harm a child? Doesn't it bother you that you'd have a child's blood on your hands? Actually, I don't care. In the end, you won't still be here with me." He bumped into a rack of spears. Perfect.(( Sed faise. I haz gun pointed at me. ))

(( souseiki: What the? Some dude randomly showed up and killed an entire group of people without making a sound and alerting the tons of people nearby? I don't think so. Zhlink: The steam is coming out of the blade itself. The sword wouldn't be fired at a bullet's speed. If people can throw spears, I think they can withstand the sword pushing back at them as it fires at similar speeds. Steam-tech doesn't mean 1800s. It means a world where steam-tech is the main tech. It goes far beyond the actual steam-tech humans have invented. As you've seen, there's mechanical arms, boots, swords, cars, etc.)) Seth had felt a gust of wind behind him and tensed. Eying the boy, he relaxed a bit; he didn't seem to mean any harm. "I wouldn't be surprised if I was," said Seth vaguely. "Nonetheless, let's get away from here first and you can explain this fear of yours somewhere a bit more relaxed." With that, he ducked under a man and rapidly disappeared into the crowd. After a few minutes of such fluid movements and changes of direction that one would've swore the boy was made of water, he paused in front of a run down cafe. He loved this place. There were three exits, easy surveillance of the street, and a wealth of chairs and tables to overturn in one's getaway. Looking around, he wondered if his little friend had managed to keep up.

((@ Tarheel and Zhlink: So does that mean that my police car and radio are ok then???))
I hurried down the alley as quietly as I could, evidently though, I wasn't quiet enough. The child turned and ran as he saw my massive figure rushing towards him. The man next to him then turned around, most likely to see why the child he was just talking to had rushed away.
Axel: Hey there, buddy. How's it going? Jerry: Move aside sir.
I raise my hand and place it firmly on his shoulder preparing to push him aside so that I can continue with my pursuit.

//@tarheel: i thought someone said the miort were supposed to protect people in romit. and a gang is still a gang, so the miort killed em. and its a back alley, so people should know not to go near there, since the gang is there most of the time. besides, if a gang is totally wiped out, why would out-siders even care? the only people who should is the police.//

((Even if the blade did heat up, the blade could be made of an insulating material which an extremely high specific heat so it doesn't get nearly as hot as the water and blade do.))
Lyte barely had time to blink before the boy ran off into the crowd. Instinctively Lyte dashed after him. At the end of each step a burst of steam burst out of the bottoms of boots, forming a small cushion of air under each boot that almost completely reduced the friction underneath the foot that wasn't actively pushing off the ground. This added a lot of distance to each stride, enough so that he didn't even have to run after the hasty boy ducking and weaving through the crowd like water. He left a pretty clear path of angry people behind him, which conveniently stopped right in front of a run down looking cafe.
A slight wave of his hand activated the scanning function on his glasses, which quickly revealed the face of the boy he was looking after sitting at a table, looking around his surroundings calmly.
"I don't know why they always run..."
Lyte casually slid in through the door and took a seat next to the boy. He didn't bother to check if he was being acknowledged or not.
"Not that it's any of my business, but I think you may be in a little bit of trouble with that gang you encountered this afternoon. And before you say anything, you should know another young man with a sword quite similar to the one you hold there is heading this way as we speak, well, as I speak. I'd advise that you either run or prepare to fight."
Another wave of the hand transformed the glove on his hand back to it's original gauntlet form. Steam jetted from the fingers in the gauntlet as it began to visibly heat, changing its tint slightly to a brownish red. Lyte's eyes glimmered with excitement as he turned to the boy.
"That is, if you're up for it."

(( girlsryummy: Yep, you're good. You're not in the same alley, and I assume police are pretty common in this city. Nothing out of the ordinary.)) (( souseiki: I'm not sure exactly what they are. They're clearly some rebel group. However, everyone's afraid of them so I wouldn't say they're out to protect people. The real issue is you can't have a humongous, bloody fight with no one noticing and police not responding.))
