Back in those days, swords were considered to be the latest, advanced, hippest thing that swept through town. Later after the discovery of gun powder and flintlock rifles, swords begun to die out. The, people added more sophisticated mechanics into guns to allow for semi-auto or auto. Range, power and speed begun to increase after decades of modification. A regular sword fight lasts from 3secs, to a few minutes, depending on the skill of both users. However, a regular gunfight takes about 2+ minutes, since now there's the safety(?) of distance in place. All in all, there's no such thing as a *lousy* sword or gun. Each has it's own pros and cons. A sniper can't spray (Rambo style ) but can pop off heads pretty well. Still, If you pit a gunslinger against a swordsman, someone's gonna get owned real bad. @ darkness: Do you know that every gun requires skill to use? I can give an unskilled person as much rocket launchers as he wants, but most likely, he'll end up misfiring or being unable to reload the damn thing. And don't jump to conclusions if you've never used the thing before. (Yes, I have thanks to NCC training.) A regular swordfights lasts around 5 secs max if both sides are reeaally skilled, and if both sides are serious idiots who have no experience with one, only then it lasts a minute or more, ironically. But if it's say 4v1 with everyone having some experience, then it'll last roughly 3 seconds. Everyone's gonna rush in and take you down and stab you to death before you can do anything lol. If you're using guns and it's 4v1 and you guys spray like mad, unless you're a total idiot, no way it's gonna last till 2 minutes cuz it's like 4 people shooting against one little dude. Assuming they were all on the same skill level, he must've lasted like 20 seconds max assuming they were bad aimers. Even with safety distance. Cuz nobody would be that much of a nub shooter rite? And there's also luck. I've never held a gun in my life but from watching others I know that it's waaay harder than it looks. I watched one soldier getting knocked down from the recoil of a bazooka before, lol. But then I'm not much of an good estimator on gunfights, never been in one... Never intending to find myself in one Though for the sword fight you can take my word for it.

Well, I may have never used a rocket launcher, but one thing's for sure: I'd last less than a second with one. And not because there's an enemy.

Well yes, more people died from friendly fire than enemy fire. And it wasn't the impact of the rocket. It was from standing BEHIND the rocket launcher when the thing was fired.

Bar more recent versions, doesn't firing a rocket in confined spaces kill the user as well?

Smoke inhalation?
Recoil hits wall, causing rocket launcher to fall off, and asplode in yo' face?
Rocket hits wall and blast incinerates you?

Or you, being an idiot, held the rocket against your shoulder, massive recoil drives the stock through you, then you against the wall?

The backblast of the rocket will rebound off the walls, and roughly turn your innards into jelly. And the blast of the rocket will compress the air around the room, creating a quickly expanding sonic boom. Which might result in you bleeding through all your holes.

Yea, I think Zhlink got the jist of it.
I remember that in GTA4, if you had the rocket launcher (thing) and you fired slightly down, there was a curious effect of an angled shot. It may have been the RPG's rocket effect kicking in, though.

Ok, that does it, I'm never touching any of them rocket launchers.

I'll admit, it's pretty darn heavy, and it isn't very good to run around with that much weight on your back constantly. Other than that, RPGs are meant to take down vehicles and to be shot into small enclosed areas.
